This project aims to strengthen the knowledge and self-esteem of urban Aboriginal children’s racial identity. The project will develop, implement and evaluate an intervention called Cultural Learnings. The project expects to generate new knowledge using an innovative, yet culturally secure transfer of knowledge from Aboriginal Elders and carers to children within a school environment. Expected outcomes include improved carers' efficacy in teaching children about identity and culture, improved school cultural security and improved range of strategies used by children in response to racism. These outcomes are expected to provide a positive shift in children's school outcomes such as attendance, behaviour, attitudes, effort and achievement.
