Disability in rural Australia

This report investigates the lived experiences of Aboriginal people with disabilities living in the West Kimberley region of Western Australia, covered by the local government shires of Broome and Derby–West Kimberley. The major population centres in the West Kimberley are the towns of Broome, Derby and Fitzroy Crossing.

This report focuses on the in-depth qualitative interviews conducted with Aboriginal people with disabilities residing in the West Kimberley...The interview incorporated into this report are from the three major towns in the region: Broome, Derby and Fitzroy Crossing. While most of the adult participants self-identified as having a disability and of being of Aboriginal descent, some participants were parents of a child (including adult children) with a disability who were actively involved in the day-to-day provision of support and/or care.
