Developing a framework for measuring Indigenous research benefit

This project explored what constitutes research benefit from the perspective of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The key achievements of the project include (a) the articulation of principles and definitions of what is research, its value and benefit to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people; (b) the development of a protocol for Indigenous engagement and research impact; and (c) the identification of innovative ideas to measure research impact and engagement in Indigenous research contexts. The project also contributed to enhanced leadership capacity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research participants through knowledge exchange and translation; networking opportunities and peer support.

Associate Professor Felecia Watkin Lui is a Torres Strait Islander woman with giz from Erub, Mabuiag and Badu.

Professor Roxanne Bainbridge is a Gunggari/Kunja woman from South-Western Queensland. She previously worked as a Professorial Research Fellow in Indigenous Health at Central Queensland University Australia; Adjunct to The Cairns Institute at James Cook University; and an inaugural Senior Atlantic Fellow for Social Equity at the University of Melbourne / the University of Oxford.

Professor Cadet-James is a member of the Gugu Badhun nation, and provides leadership for the Gugu Badhun Djima Research Centre activities.
